Matukituki River

Due to the heavy rain we have received during the last two months the Clutha river has been flowing over four times its normal level, not safe for the Clutha Classic, so 2019 will see the Mighty Matukituki Kayak Race replace the Clutha Classic.

About the event

Due to the heavy rain we have received during the last two months the Clutha river has been flowing over four times its normal level making the river a bit of a hazard if you take a swim due to the fact most of the river edge is covered in willow trees making a self rescue nearly impossible!

Clutha Classic 2019 will be held on the Matukituki river 28th December unless the river is in flood (over 250 cumecs)

We are hoping to start the race from Raspberry Creek this will be next to the DOC carpark depending on river flow!
